Grethe Langeland Dillon

Grethe, president of Calhoun Insurance, might be one of the few people who can say she’s been in the insurance businesses her entire life. By the time she graduated from the University of Iowa in 1991, she was steeped in the business and ready to start her own, which she did upon purchasing Calhoun Insurance in 1999. But before that, Grethe was taking on workers' comp and benefits for large industrial clients in what would later become known as employee leasing. She continued to learn alongside her father, John Langeland, of Gateway Insurance Services in Ames, Iowa. Grethe embraces the side of insurance that aids in safety for clients, and takes great pleasure in getting to know each of them personally. When she’s not sitting across the desk from her husband, Tom, a talented engineer with whom she shares office space, you’re likely to hear of the gatherings she’s hosting at her beautiful Edina home for her four children.

Laural Haessly

To know Calhoun Insurance is to know Laural Haessly. A student of life, Laural came to Calhoun seven years ago, though she might tell you that she’s been here forever. Our Vice President of Commercial Insurance, Laural deals with companies' insurance needs and enjoys, above all, “making insurance companies do what [she] tells them to do.” As you can see, she has quite the sense of humor. Aside from her steadfastness in the insurance industry, though, Laural has a passion for animals, with a bevy of adopted pets in her home.

Jim Pehl

Jim has been with Calhoun since July of 2008, but before that, he enjoyed years on his own as an independent insurance agency owner, himself. He began his insurance career with an Allstate agency, and helps us all understand the many differences between an independent agent, like us, and direct agents, who write for just one company. Now he excels as one of our best personal insurance agents, a position in which he takes great pride in lending a helping hand to our clients. But when he’s not figuring out deductibles and plans, he’s bound to be found doing something athletic. Keep your eye out for Jim on the baseball field, football yards, hockey rink, and even the volleyball court. He’s one busy guy.

Angie Bromeland

A bit of an office misfit, Angie is less part of the insurance business than she is part of president Grethe’s life. In her position as Grethe’s assistant, Angie takes care of things like managing Grethe’s time and taking care of assorted odds and ends. She’s been part of Calhoun ever since interviewing for a completely different position in July of 2008, and now enjoys working alongside a crew of people who seek to help others. Angie received her education in creative writing from UW–Eau Claire and has coincidentally had a blast creating this web site. (Which, without a schedule, Grethe would have never accomplished!) Welcome to Angie's new baby, Quinn Michael, born October, 2009.

Krystal Peterson

Always the life of the party, Krystal came to us in 2007 after graduating with a business degree from UW–Stout. Still a Wisconsin girl, Krystal doesn’t mind the commute that brings her to her job as a life and health agent. We are sharing her with her sister's new restaurant in Wisconsin! Krystal can navigate a Blue Cross Blue Shield Web site with a smile on her face, and is persistent in the face of "computer error!" Warren Clayton

We call Warren "Birddog" because he picks up insurance policies and directs us to find something better to deliver back. (We suppose "Boomerang" would better describe this phenomenon, but the name didn't stick.) Warren Clayton comes to Calhoun with a long-term background in annuities, life insurance, and industrial workers' compensation, manufacturing, and employee benefits. Warren worked in the staffing industry for many years helping clients assess their work comp exposures and providing creative solutions that included new staffing and training programs. Most recently, Warren owned and operated a staffing company designed to serve employers who recognize that the first sixty days of employment are the most injurious, and how to make that time safer. Warren is a proud Marine, and father of eight! This makes him fun, tough, proud, wise, and humble!

Tom Dillon

Tom Dillon is not technically an employee of Calhoun, but our site is not complete without his profile. Tom's engineering firm shares space with our agency, and Calhoun is generally better at insurance than anything technical, so we need the help. (The engineers make us particularly good at technology risks!) Tom pointed out we might attempt our own website and offered a crash course-but even he is a hobbyist in that arena. Married to our agency president, even Grethe hardly understands what exactly Tom does across the desk from her. His website says,"Dillon Engineering has the most extensive supply of FFT/IFFT IP Cores for FPGA and ASIC to meet the needs of the most demanding applications.", and, as long as NASA pays their bill, Grethe is fine with that.

Emily Hanson

Angie Bromeland welcomes the Mighty Baby Quinn Bromeland, and Calhoun Insurance Agency welcomes Emily Hanson! In our first meeting with Emily, we asked her if she knew her sister, with whom we had acquaintenances in common at our local Philadelphia Insurance office! (Hey! Different last names, how were we to know?) Emily is doing a great job training in to be a personal insurance client service rep when Angie returns, and working at being all that Angie was in the interim. Emily comes from a family with quite a background in insurance service, and it shows in her quick wit and learning of the EXACT phrasing necessary on many insurance documents. Emily works in our Edina office.
